Tips to Unclog Your Toilet

- Hot water will be your best friend. Hot water will help you by melting away the blockage, just be careful not to use boiling water otherwise you will cause the ceramic to crack, which is a much more critical issue to deal with.
- Use dish soap. Dish soap is great to break down grease and other food waste; this will also help break down toilet clogs. As a best practice, add at least a cup of dish soap into the toilet bowl and leave it for some minutes (around 30 to 40 minutes) to let it sit and work its magic! After that, check to see if the water has started to lower in the bowl, which is a sign that the soap is working.
- Epsom salt. You can find Epsom salt at any grocery shop at a pretty affordable price! Grab a pinch and pour it into the toilet bowl. When poured into the bowl, it will create a fizzy chemical reaction that can help unclog and clear drains. Make sure you wait at least 20 minutes before flushing down the toilet.
- Toilet Plunger. Hold the plunger with both hands and give a few up-and-down strokes and then flush the toilet. If the water clears, then unclogged it successfully! If the toilet starts overflowing again, make sure you close the flapper to stop water from entering the bowl.
- Last but not least, the toilet brush. This is our least favorite, but might be necessary if none of the above worked. Hold the handle, push the brush into the drain hole, and start to pull your arm back and forth. Make sure to wear your gloves since this can get a little bit gross! Be careful with your movements, as you don’t want to harm the toilet, but do get vigorous.
